Good Day All:Does anyone have any experience with this make of attenuator. I am looking at replacing my Alps Black Beuty volume pot in my DR-6 with one of those attenuators. Any opinions.

Follow Ups:
Where can I read more about this Gold point attenuator?/Peter
Last night I put a pair of mono shunt type Goldpoint into my Basie
preamp (an all valve kit by diyhifisupply - an excellent unit and shatteringly
good value).
It's too soon to say much about the sound; I only listened for 10
minutes and the system was stone cold due to doing the mods. Even so,
I was noticing more detail, extra transparency. I think it'll turn out
fine when I give it a proper listen, and well worth doing.Assembling a Goldpoint (rather than buying the DACT) allows you to
select your own resistors - both the make (to tune the sound) and the
values (to get a characteristic that suits you). I went for Holco
resistors initially, with a Caddock series resistor. Later, I may
well try something else in a suitable position to evaluate it (next
winter's tweak, I think). If you favour the shunt type, the Goldpoint one is excellent - it has
a position for the series resistor, making a complete neat unit. The shunt type has a couple of advantages over the other configs.
It has only two resistors and one switch contact in use, so potentially
may sound the best.
Because there is just one series resistor, always in use whatever the
switch position, one can go to town on this one and spend a lot of
money on it.
There is the disadvantage that the total resistance varies with switch
position. However, if you look at the figures, this is only significant
at very high volume settings which I personally never get to.My (limited!) experience suggests that an attenuator is a useful
tweak, an extra refinement .... worth doing to an already good preamp.
But not a *fundamental* change to the sound or the quality; I would
not expect it to turn a poor pre into a good one. If there are problems
with a preamp, I guess that it could even show them up more.
The DACT attenuators; the guys around here are raving about them. They're also pretty reasonable in cost. Only come assembled, AFAIK; since they're made using SMT.Poinz
