Thanks to John Curl, Corndog, preamp, and the rest for a stimulation thread about wires and outlets. I don't think any epiphanies were had, but it's always beneficial to discuss a controversial subject without resorting to hurt feelings, name-calling, and raised blood pressure (speaking for myself, but hopefully for all who contributed).
Follow Ups:
When I get my new dedicated lines and Hubbell 8300's up and running. I will faithfully submit a report. *S*
At least this is one of the cheaper tweaks. I'll probably bite the bullet soon and replace a few outlets myself. Hopefully it will make a difference in the positive. Better sound is my bag, baby!
It was a little odd not having threats from the moderators to COOL IT!! And I agree it was an interesting discussion. I have yet to try the "audiophile grade" outlets myself. $25 for the Acme silver plated outlet sounds doable. It's better than $50 for PS audio's 15x nickel plated outlet. I like using silver in my stereo. When I mention the use of pure silver in my stereo, some people seem a little more accepting of the high prices. Not that they would ever buy the stuff. They still think I'm a little nutty. As far as hearing differences in passive components, I like to think I'm open minded. I've had expectations blown. Even after spending the money. I can admit when something stinks. But if I hear something worth noting I have no problems sticking up for it.
Rob CThe world was made for people not cursed with self-awareness
I can identify with people thinking you're a little off-base. I've been into DIY loudspeakers for a few years. I've got woofers and tweeters and inductors all over my garage/workshop. When I try to explain it to the neighbors, they give me this semi-quizzical, worried look like maybe I've lost it.
I won't take it personally (I sell real estate, so I have VERY thick skin), but it seems to me (and is pretty easy to read the posts below) that I was called a whiner, accused of being juvenile and accused of making "weird and wonderful claims" (I believe this was originally posted as "outlandish claims") following a statement that I'd listened to about 5 different outlets (identified in my posts) and suggested that someone who was skeptical might pop a whopping $8 on a receptacle I like and see if it didn't improve their set-up. All this from a guy who says "I've tried it", but doesn't say what "it" is and implies I'm deranged because I say I've heard something. He then tells me it's my responsibility to "prove it". Jeez, you'd think I was personally hawking a $4,000 power cord! I think I'll place a little more emphasis on opinions from people like Bob Crump, John Curl, Paul McGowan, Ray Kimber and the many, many audiophiles with much more experience (and expensive and probably better gear) than myself. They're also quite a bit more diplomatic in their posting styles, which I kind of like as well.
But now that you mention it....
