OK, sorry, I was thinking about interconnects. Just the same, you could use shielded speaker cable.
Most speaker cables are unshielded by design. The amplified signal is large enough such that it's electromagnetic interaction with a shield is not so insignificant, unlike a line level signal.The same reasoning for distancing the cable from the carpet applies to the shield. The shield is a conductor that can hold a charge. The charge will cause EM interactions which can modulate the signal in the cable. That's not good. It means it's changing your music.
This, of course, is a very simplified explanation.
Hi, I think it would be easier to raise the cables than replacing them. My guess is that the original poster likes the cables that he is using and is now in the process of maximizing there abilities. All these small tweaks, on their own, don't seem to make a lot of difference, but they are cumilative. I believe that success is in the details.
