Rod M made mention in a previous post that in older equipment one of the capacitors can start to fail intermittantly then fail completely. It seems that a lot of the old equipment (70's-80's) has a channel going out or already gone. (My retired Sansui 9090DB is just another example)
Granted, in old SS equipment about anything could fail but are there other common failure points in addition to caps for equipment of this era.
My dad has an old (circa 1972) Pioneer 4ch receiver that has some trouble with the left channels. They break up and crackle almost continuously. I've been thinking about opening it up and poking around with the good ol' Fluke meter. The unit is too beautiful to get rid of. What other things might I look for that may be faulty?
