Anyone in the asylum know of a, UK, source of J2SK147 fet's? Also, any tricks for matching same? Thanks, Denis.

The Toshiba 2SK389, available from MCM Electronics (www.i-mcm.com/Profile/welcome-frame-unregistered.jhtml) can be substituted.
.
The 2SK389 is not an exact replacement for a 2SK146 / 147 because it is a smaller device and you have to put 2 in parallel to get the same noise performance. It is available, however. A friend of mine just this week put 4 2SK389's in parallel to achieve very low noise.
Any idea where to get a 2SK146? It doesn't seem to be available through any of the usual North American supply houses. It doesn't even show up on Toshiba's web site!
The 2SK146 ultra low noise dual fet has been discontinued. This device was 2 X 2SK147 fets factory matched and banded together with an aluminum cover. They are available here and there. I think that Erno Borbeley sells them out of Germany. It is easier to put two 2SK389 devices together to get about the same noise. These are matched fets, but are a smaller die, so they are slightly more noisy. For many applications, a single 2SK389 is quiet enough.
Actually, I just managed to find a cross-reference on the Japanese Toshiba site. Toshiba seems to be saying that 2SK369 is a direct replacement for 2SK147 (or alternately, J2SK147). The data sheet for 2SK369 says (in typical Japan-speak) "super low noise" and "suitable for use as first stage for equalizer and MC head amplifier."What's your opinion of that one, Mr Curl?
I'm pretty sure that you are correct. It is a 2SK147 in a smaller package. Now all you have to do is match them, if you need a diff pair. Get at least 10 pieces, 25 is even better. You must match for Idss (1ma) at minimum and Vgs at Id (20mv) for best performance.
Thanks! I'll be sure to do that.
