Will use to drive (sny dvps7000-transport only, cal alpha,no pre) some fostex fe208sig,JBL LE8T-H(can't find) or Lowther pm4s(in front horns-i'm dreaming...). So may need 20+ watts ( for the fostex or more for the jbl?).
BTW any body try gold wire for interconn. A jewlers metal supplier can have it drawn for me from std.24k stock for gold cost plus fee. I think 30awg would suffice(30ga=INCH??). Gold $ low right now. Would use FEP foam core and a Risch design.
Remember the Zen puts out about one watt so you will need +100db speakers.
Sorry I mean SOZ son of zen (Nelson Pass). So looking for a (similar one stage-if possible- or two stage gain) SE tube amp 20+ watts DIY......

Keep looking. Not that you'll find anything....

Yes. Little Bears porrage. Why sort of?Tube Ignorant, Lewis

Hi there,There is a German Design (Jerico) for a Back-Horn using the FE208 combined with a passive LRC Equaliser....
The result is 100db/W/m Sensitive and flat between 50Hz and 20kHz....
The Zen would drive something like this with Gusto....
The JBL Driver will need more power, a lot more (about 10 times as much) to go eaqually loud....

Great. How do I aquire the plans? I hope it's not big.
Can a SE tube amp be one stage like the Pass Son of Zen Mosfet? (DIY too?)Thanks Lewis
Hi there,> > > > Great. How do I aquire the plans? < < < <
I have electronic copies around, e-mail me directly.... How'z your German?
> > > > I hope it's not big. < < < <
You hope in vain. High Efficiency and decent Bass require large size. That is inherent to phyisc.... The attached (arguably not very nice) Picture shows the size.... The Driver is a 8" Unit....

Well, not really. You could build theSpud-Amp, but that will do no more than 0.5W - 1W from a single Valve.... But even the Jerico Horn likes a little bit more....
The problem with the Zen (and SOZ) is that they have so low gain that you need an active Preamp, and bang, you have the second stage again, only in a different chassis.
I think the choice of the (Decware) Zen Amp is good. I'd personally get the Kit and try a NOS 6072A as Input valve instead of the 6N1P supplied.... I'd probably also try a pair of NOS Mullard EL84's....
That will reduce the Output power to about 2.5 - 3W from the quoted 5W but may be worth it....
Alternatively you could build the JC Morrison Version of the Loftin White 2A3 Amp, preferably replacing all electrolyic Capacitors the schematic shows with Ansar Supersound or Solen Polypropylen....

Hello, what do you think of this from Deja.Com ..............1997/11/19buffstereo@aol.com (Buffstereo) wrote:

6BQ7, 6BZ7, or 6BS8. Electrically almost identical to 6N1,
certainly close enough to sub, and cheap, too.
Just pull 'em out of the front end of yer tuner & try 'em...

Hi there, the 6N1P is supposed to be a 6DJ8/6922 Replacement....
As I have a goodly selction of NOS Philips, Mullards and Brimars, i doubt I'd be too tempted....
I still think that a NOS EL84 with a 6072 will be breathtakingly transparent and tactile.... Maybe not the last word in Slamm and Bass but in finesse....
