I don't THINK multipath is the problem here. Try a decent rooftop antenna first. Rarely will expensive tiny amplified antennas help much.
How far are you from the station(s)? That will determine the antenna.
If you are less than 25 miles, RatShak makes a $15 turnstile type antenna that should work well. If you are farther, you will need to go the directiona antenna way.

  Feed in with 75 ohm cable and you should be fine, assuming a good, working tuner. I have used that same antenna and I'm 20 miles outside of NYC and itworks great for that distance and more.
  In any case, you're gonna need a rooftop antenna.
