Hi;I'm looking for an automatic on/off switch for my "new" Adcom GFA 555, which I'm usung as an subwoofer amp. so the amp will power up when I start playing music over my system and power down, shortly after I turn my system off.
I have seen these auto turn on/off switches in powered subwoofer.
I am not looking for a powerstrip or some other external device, but an internal part, that I can place inside my power amp, switching it on, when a signal on the RCA input arrives. Thanks
Follow Ups:
Either an audio-controlled switch, as already suggested, or a simpler solution. Tap a relay's input into the main amplifier's power supply. A 24V relay input will steal around 20-40 mA of current, use a series resistor to limit current. Feed AC to the slave amp through this relay.
Hello CaptZ,There is (was?) a device which does EXACTLY what you asked for: turns on a mains powered device after detection of an audio signal and turns it off after a period of no audio signal (the off time is adjustable). It was advertised in the Jaycar Electronics 1999 Catalogue (a comapny in Australia) as catalogue number KA-1812 (cost: $AUS 55). The device could be used internally or externally and according to the Jaycar Catalogue is detailed in the Electronics Australia Magazine October 1998 edition (circuit, description etc...)- unfortunately I do not have a copy and jaycar appear to no longer sell the kit. If you are still interested by the time you read this I will try and research this further on my next visit to Jaycar (soon).
Please advise,
HAVE FUN,
JOEY.
hello CaptZ,Jaycar has a web site www.jaycar.com.au. It does not list the kit for KA-1812, but you could ask them whether they still have the kit information sheet with circuit, description etc.. and take it from there. On my next visit to JAYCAR I will enquire about this kit anyway.
Have FUN,JOEY
Hi,
What you are lookng for is a audio activated switch. There was one described in the Audio Amateur. I could not find it right now; please look in the back issue list on www.audioxpress.com
Good luck,
