to turn....I am spoiled my sansui has a dc bias pot, my Kenwood ka3500 does not,
the bias is 31 and 37mv...is it true Dc offset under 50mv is no big deal?
I have my sansui set,<1mv.
Just wondering

Audio Karma for vintage gear assistance when needed. There are a bunch of guys there that can help. DIY.com is goo as well.
You're really off the wall with this stuff. :)
The KA3500 'does' have a bias setting potentiometer.
I'm looking at the service manual for it right now. Same procedure as your Sansui.
I'm not sure what you're doing or what your background is, but I suggest to be careful.
Dave.
I was gonna say.....my KA-7100 DOES have a bias pot.......I've found it on the board but never touched since the outputs run cool and I have no idea of the correct value....
Too much is never enough
in the "adjustments section", just the output bias, only 2 pots on parts list, referenced as bias pots 1000k, and i don't see any more variable resistors on the schematic, i have not removed the cover yet to actually take a look....

Page 8 of the service manual. :)
In fact, the 40mA quiescent current is even labeled on the schematic. 40mV measured across the 1 ohm emitter resistors yields that current.
This is a very straightforward amplifier design for the era.
Dave.
I have decided to put this back in the closet...
Well, if you want to learn and play with it, go ahead.
But here on AA, (and especially in the Tweakers area,) is not the place to find good advice. :)Check on DIYaudio.com, for example. I did a quick search and found numerous threads regarding this amplifier. Many tinkerers/technicians have been inside these amps.
Dave.

thanks for the advice....:)
My amp is the sansui au317, tranny bias is 10mv, I was looking at the sansui au 517, and noticed that the same tranny is used with the same value of emitter resistance, I noticed that the 517 bias is 20mv, could or should i up the 317 10mv to the 717mv?
317 is rated at 50w, 717 at 65w...per channel.
thanks for your interest...:)

So you have to set it when you are straight? ... ;-)
