Before you try this be mindful there are electrical codes written for a reason. Also the possibility of creating a ground loop which will compound any problems real or perceived.

You mean like the dedicated equipment grounding provisions described within the NEC?
As long as your "extra" ground is within the house interior and tied to your house electrical ground, you are safe. It may still cause a ground loop but that just results in more hum.What you don't want to do is to drive in a separate Earth ground rod and connect that to your audio components. All ground rods must be heavily bonded together. If not this does create a serious hazard for lightning and utility ground faults.
