Hi all,
As I recall Duster being somewhat high on both of these earlier on, yet later mentioned QC issues with the Viborg as well as a different type of substance they began using on their unplated copper AC | IEC plugs..., yet as I've collected sets of each of said banana plugs in unplated copper | gold plated copper | rhodium plated copper, which have all be placed into my storage unit until the time came to use them | let's just say I was trying to replace the ones on my pair of Kudos Audio KS-1 SCs last night, and on one pair had forgotten to place an aluminum y boot splitter onto the run of one cable before having installed said plugs..., upon going back after one use, I found two of these plugs hex based screws were stripped to the point I had to shorten the pair of SCs on the speakers end, where I usually cut the lengths of each leg to 17" long, having to cut off an extra 3" meant doing both pairs all over again, a task which in itself took 5 hours, as I added some very nice looking nylon braided tech flex onto said cables as well, let's just say having rather large fingers doesn't help when it comes to fishing 1/4" cables through said outer jacket, yet in the end they look much more professionally done..., yes I remain somewhat overly anal about the overall appearance of things, maybe to much so.
But the point is, if you plan to only use these banana plugs once?, then they're very very musical plugs, with said restrictions noted as it relates to them becoming easily stripped.
On top of that, the extended clips that run along side the 4mm post themselves, in my case had to be pushed in as they were extremely hard to place into the binding post of either my amp or speakers.
Take care all.

if copper? Not a hard metal and that may be the source of 'stripping'. ??
Too much is never enough
How true..., yet I think in the end it was mainly because I over tightened this one particular one, which in turn made me use 4 different plated types on the speakers end | where in truth I enjoy the combination even more. As I've noticed more than a few guys using two different types of plating or un-plated AC | IEC Connectors on power cords, having now experienced this, I see why, it brings about a sense of both worlds ( favors ) if you will.
I use them. The coating is NOT conductive... believe it or not.
There is a thread in this forum with someone testing with a meter.
I sanded the coating off and re-polished it and all is good.
Probably will replace someday as I have sworn off all in-chain metallurgy coming out of China, including transformers.
Thanks for chiming in, lokie,
You seemed to have gone further than most of us, in having sanded off the coating and refinish them via polishing the base metal, I've to assume.
Yet as a few of us have found some very very nice sounding cables and power cords produced in China, I for one can't write them off based upon political biases as it stands, as one has to assume their are plenty of Asian music lovers | Audiophiles, whom are some point are entitled to learn how to create wonderful sounding products, be they electronics or cabling, and as I know it many from Taiwan have always been avid tweaker's and are very advanced in the art of system setup, where Americans have came rather late to said system details.
Culturally in my mind it isn't where any given item is built..., it's the implementation behind the designers mind. The Viborg RCA connectors for example are extremely well thought out and designed, won't you say?, of which I've used for several years now in voicing overly bright, or rolled off IC's.
I use the same viborg banana plugs and encountered the same problem with the hex heads getting stripped due to overtightening them. For me, this is not too much a problem as I have not found a need to remove the banana plug. When I had asked dusty about my experience of stripping the hex heads, his reply seemed to indicate that I had overtightened the screws more than necessary. His reply did not indicate that viborg's plugs are more prone to stripping than other banana plugs.
As to removing the stripped hex head, if I recall correctly, I was able to unscrew the stripped hex head by using another hex wrench. Apparently the included hex tool is also of a soft material and gets out of shape pretty easily. With a new hex tool, I was able to unscrew the stripped hex head.
Good to hear that they sound good as I have not experimented with other banana plugs.
Hello py272,
Talk about being very disappointed | I ended up keeping the 4 on the amps side, and tossed the other 4 which were on the speakers end of things, yet it was only the one which caused me problems | I just felt I didn't want to buy another set.
Thing is, as I ended up with the Monosaudio gold plated copper ones at said amps binding post, and was curious about mixing this with a set of silver plated copper ones, the overall signature caught me off grand, in that both in tandem sort of created a hybrid sound of both platings, which in truth comes across as more to my likings...-, but then I'm one which tries to find that very very fine line between refinement | detail, and by chance that's exactly what I've discovered as my sound.
Now onto a quad set of those pure silver Viborg banana plugs | I'm done.
