It's a pretty neat tool, it told me my expensive Torus PB10 conditioner was crap, it showed a reading of almost 200mvp-p when the max should be 50.
For some reason my cd player power cord acounted for half of than.
I removed the Torus from the system, installed one of my Brick Walls feeding a six outlet box, and my reading is now 35 with the cd player making no difference.
Needless to say the Torus was promptly sold. It was isolation transformers, so I guess it was isolating but not filtering.
Follow Ups:
If the Torus is naught but an isolation transformer, you wouldn't expect it to filter any frequencies within its bandwidth. You'd want to add some sort of actual filter.
They are supposed to be isolation transformers plus conditioner with surge protection. Maybe mine had some defect, although I bought it new and I noticed nothing until I tested it with that meter.
It was putting out a lot of EMI,especially with the Sony UBP plugged in.
I tried a different power cord on the Sony, but the same result. So I unplugged everything from it and moved it around the room to try other circuits, all gave the same high reading.
Surprisingly, pluging the meter straight into all my wall outlets measured good, below the 50 level, then with just my old faithful Brick Wall it drops even further.
So you proved that a filter works, now you know what is needed. You seem to have isolated the source too which is the major hurdle. An inexpensive solution is Maybe try some ferrite beads on the power cord. Or add an X / y capacitor at the CD player 120VAC socket, Some IEC sockets have a built in filter.
I need none of that, my only problem was with the Torus Power conditioner.
The whole system now reads 35, with just my Brick Wall feeding it.
kind of reaffirms the old adage of 'it may well be measuring well, but not necessarily measuring the right characteristic'...
