hi all,
I'm rewiring and simplifying my quad 50e mono blocks. These have an input pot. Their cousins the 50d do not. I would like to eliminate it. the schematic shows that the pot is 40k to 10 k. the 50d schematic shows a 10k resistor. a search shows many types and wattage ratings of 10 k resistors. What type and wattage rating of resistor should i pick for this application?

Just based on the model designations you provided, it seems that the use of the potentiometer at the input came later than the use of the single value resistance (50E vs 50D). Have you used the 50E amplifier in your home system, and when you did, what setting on the pot sounded best? I ask because for some preamplifiers, especially for a tube based preamplifier, a fixed input impedance of 10K ohms might be problematic. On the other hand, getting rid of the pot per se may improve SQ.
I use Audio Note 1/2 Watt Tantulum as input resistors on my 'Blocks which are "reasonably" priced from Parts Connexion.

Input resistors don't see much current so a 1/4 watt should be fine (unless I'm missing something). I would consider a very high quality resistor like a Vishay metal foil (S102) or at least a Dale RN55. Surplus Sales of Nebraska has quite a few S102 and S102c resistors at very reasonable prices.
