Interesting, Those are the exact 3M damping sheets I was thinking about using for my Aesthetix IO phono amp. I imagine cutting the sheets is a little hard to do as you need metal snips to cut the sheets. Did they help out some?
Follow Ups:
They work very well-I have used them in several cd players and the ringing one gets when you tap the metal is gone. I have also tried dynamat on the chassis but did not like the sound-everything became bloated and less clear. If using inside of a warm piece of equipment (like an amplifier) these are a no brainer. And they are inexpensive!
Glad to hear that these simple and less costly tweaks have such a positive improvement on audio equipment. I guess this is less discussed compared to other more costly methods of vibration control because, well, it's less costly and not many audio enthusiasts are going past the platform or external chassis methods to dampen components. I know we are getting way into the weeds with this type of tweak, but, why not. If we are already doing tweaks like using cable elevators than we can also evaluate the feasibility of using damping material within a component to achieve maximum performance.
and actually they worked quite well. I had cement under the carpet with rebar. From what I was told by the seller was that the cable laying on top of the rug were susceptible to static and capacitance interaction with the rebar in the slab. So raising the cables off the carpet help quite a bit and in sound for the better. I don't know how much this tweak would work on wooden floors if at all.
Getting way into the weeds is how one gets excellence. Tweak after tweak after tweak add up to something way beyond purveyor non sense and exaggeration.
