I have a cabinet maker making me an audio cabinet which features wood doors with black glass. I will be using a remote control with my preamp (being built). Is there a black glass which is IR transparent (freq. of remote control) which is available for consumer use?
Otherwise, I go with a repeater, which is far less desirable. I prefer to solve the problem with selecting the right glass.
Thanks a lot.
I used some acrylic sheets to put a 'front' onto an open black glass cabinet. the colour is a perfect match but most importantly is it's a lot cheaper than glass. For you the important thing is that it has no effect on IR signals as I control a Sky TV box, Apple TV, spdif switcher and a HT processor through the acrylic with their usual remotes.
Here's how to test some glass:
You need a remote control and a camera (a phone will do). First check that the camera can 'see' the remote control by watching the camera display when you press buttons on the remote. Most cameras can see the IR no problem.
Then it's an easy matter to tell if the glass lets IR through or not.
Good idea. Thanks.
