Hey folks,
Due to my amps age, things have broken down. So I have to replace stock plastic spring clip speaker outputs as well as installing Jumpers on PCB for Preamp to power amp... taking the aluminium/steel/nickel? U Jumpers and rca jacks out of signal path.
So opinions I'd like some input on are solder to use for Jumpers and for binding post/PCB and lead wires. As well as Spades, internal speaker cab wire and Faston connectors.
In guitar work I prefer WBT.
Solder I have is:
*WBT w lead
*Mundorf AG/AU/CU
*Johnson w lead
*Cardas Quad Eutectic.
So which of those for Pre/power section Jumpers made from Morrow Audio IC wires?
Which solder for individual or entire signal path of tin wire tips, PCB joints and binding post contact joints?
Next is spades, under $100 for 4. These are my current options:
*XShadpw Reference (OFC Cu, heavy AG plate)
*Oyaide SPYT (Alpha Cu, Ag/paladium plated, cryo treated)
*Onix R (OFC Cu, Rhodium plated)
*Furutech FP-203, (Alpha pure Cu, Rhodium plate
Which plated type for each, tweeters, Mids and Woofer...
Faston: Oyaide:
*Gold
*Ag/Rhodium
*Platinum/Paladium
Internal Speaker Cab Wire:
*Duelund WE16GA? 16 AWG tinned stranded Cu, oil/cotton jacket
*Oyaide Explorer V2 18 awg solid core Cu
*Kimber 4VS
Also, out of wires above and Furutech FS-303 Stranded Cu 16 AWG wire, which would you use for leads from PCB to speaker output Binding posts contacts?
General audio characteristics I'm after are: Musical, large 3D soundstage, warm/natural balance, imaging and then detail.
Thanks folks
Follow Ups:
Cardas wire and connectors should give you the sound characteristics you are looking for. Oyaide tends to be fast and analytical. Gold is their least aggressive metal, but their outlets tend to be to in-your-face for my taste, and for my electronics. However, I only have experience with their outlets. Their wire and connectors may not share the house sound of their outlets.
I suggest using your favorite solder to work with.
21 AWG VH Audio solid core OCC copper with AirLok dielectric wire would make a great signal-jumper.
CMC 6005 pure copper spades are direct-plated or bare copper found at low-cost.
Oyaide Faston platings: For full-effect, you'll have to mix-and-match, but a safe-bet would be gold.
VH Audio 21 AWG quad (18 AWG aggregate) OCC copper with AirLok dielectric cable should make great PCB to binding post wiring.
