If you don't want to drill into the speakers, spiking (or tiptoe-ing) is going to be difficult as the speakers will just vibrate off.

Couldn't agree more. The original "tip toes" under a stand-mount would be an accident waiting to happen. For that matter, never found spiking a monitor type speaker to a stand yielded very good results. I've used similar type products you've mentioned or even blu-tack between the stand's platform and the bottom of the speaker. Now rather to couple or decouple the stand itself to the floor is another issue to consider in the final tuning process.
Thank you! This could turn into quite a debate. The biggest impovement so far was filling the stands with 50lbs each of clay kitty litter. I couldnt find dry playground sand.
