Hi,I replaced a 15 years old Elna Tonorex 10000 uf x 35v filter capacitor with same value Nichicon KG Gold Tune in my vintage PHILIPS CDP. The sound is not to my liking, very smooth in the middle and lacks attack in the highs. Could anyone suggest something better that offers clarity and less smoothness, while offering musicality and details and dynamics
Thanks,
t.

Tonerex caps are still available. Looks like they are the LPO series.
I am always surprised when someone writes that he can hear big sonic differences between two very good electrolytic capacitors of identical value and voltage rating used in a power supply filter. My advice would be to check that your installation is "good". Good solder joints, etc. Then give the new cap some time to break in, not that I necessarily believe that will make a big difference. Beyond that, it's a matter of opinion, but I like ELNA Silmic II low voltage electrolytics, given my druthers. However, there should be nothing at all wrong with your new Nichicon, unless it is damaged or defective.
