....Gary, or anyone, is burlap the same thing as hession? Is there a specific tightness(looseness) of weave necessary for acoustic transparency? I am collecting bits and pieces for JR's bass traps/panels and burlap, apparently, is not a term used in Australia.
Also, you mention in your review of the treatments that you used r2.5 polyester. Did your investigations prove this rating roughly equivalent to Jons recommendations? What about fibreglass -is this the same? (I have some r3.5 batts which are roughly 5.5 to 6 " when fully uncompressed). Any thoughts welcome.

The burlap is also called jute.R2.5 is going to be about equiv. to 3" of fiberglass, the minimum recommended thickness. R3.5 as you say, being 6" thick or so would be much better for either a wall panel, and mandatory for a bass trap.
