I have made four of Jon Risch's diy line filters and like the improvements. I have also recently purchased an isolation transformer; I forget the exact spec right now but I think it is rated at 10 amps. My question is, with the isolation transformer do I still need the filtering? Would the ultimate be the isolation trannie feeding the filters? I am going to try both but wonder if anyone has some insight.
Such things are not cut and dried. You need to experiment, and see if using them after the iso-transformer, or before it, will add or detract to the whole enchilada. Each such device will tend to add another level of slight restriction to the current flow. For power amps, this can be critical, for line level components, it may not be as much of an issue, and the transformer and filter together might be the best combination.
