Does anyone have experience fixing an amplifier that remains on even after the power switch is removed?? Originally I thought I had a bad switch, as this is often the problem with old amps. However, after removing the switch to install a new one, the amp still remained on, even with the switch totally removed. Installing the new one had no effect. Any ideas on what I should look at first? Common causes/fixes for this problem?
Follow Ups:
The amp is an old Harmon Kardon Citation 24 (solid state). At the moment, I have the switch totally removed and it is still powered on. Installing a new switch did nothing. Before I start to did too deep into this thing, I was hoping there was some kind of obvious cause to this type of problem.

Perhaps the former owner bypassed the faulty switch & used an outboard switched power strip to turn it on & off. In such case remove his bypass to permit the new switch to function.

sounds like the protection upc is bad. That is if your amp has one.
Tell us more.
Ok, this sounds kinda scary.First though, what amp?
It must be energized through the switch and the contacts a fused in the closed position
