Man, that is going to be a sight in your listening room! You must be single. How about using copper pipe? The kind that is used for water supply in home construction. It will offer shielding and be smaller in diameter. You will need a valve like a reverse tire air stem to apply the vacuum. The needed space around the conductors does not need to be that large. Another idea is to use a gas lighter than air. How about helium?
The copper pipe would probably crush under the pressure of a vacuum plus I prefer the PVC because it would be much less resonant. I could always use a foil for shielding purposes.
the copper pipe is way more resistant to sub atmospheric pressure than pvc (there is no way you can practicly get that deep a vacuum anyway)..I think the disney guy has a nice construction with the NO'2 gas..
