Interesting -- could you explain what you mean by the HEXFREDs going soft? How does this affect the quality of the power supply?I may get a chance to compare firsthand nevertheless, having already ordered the parts. Oh well.....
Thanks for your imput! --daryl
I like the Harris parts better than the IR Hexfreds as the darned Hexfreds just didn't want to come back from their softness in the high end....This was on two 24 volt supplies for a preamp a number of years ago...I spent over a month waiting for these devices to open up and they never did....Both the Schottky types and the soft recovery Harris parts work well with low voltages in SS gear and do not exhibit this problem.....After that experience I haven't used anything but Harris soft recovery or Schottky types regardless of voltage, but have tubers tell me that the Hexfreds work well in the high voltage supplies of tubed equipment.....Try it yourself and report back as this is a very important issue....

Daryl, I was talking to my partner and had an installation note for you on the Harris RHR460 diodes....For some reason or other these parts seem to be marked backwards as Pat Duran, John Curl and I have all put the things in backwards so measure them before installation and then fire up the unit on a lighbulb in series with the line just to be sure...
