Hi Jon and all,
I have a CAL Audio Labs Iconn MKII (w/o HDCD). I am interested in modify it to get better sound. I'll first do a simple tweek with Jon's Idea sand bagging the Crystal. While I am in there, what's other thing should I look into to do modification? Is the LC Clock XO will work with this model?Any suggestion is helpful? Please provide your input.
After the modification, I will post the result. Thanks All
I have done some simple, but very affective mods on my CAL. First I added vibration damping sheets all over the housing, transport and on different places on the PC board.
Than I added sorbothane feet under the player. This really warmed up the mids and the bass and also made the sound a lot less aggressive.
I'm planning on replacing the rec. diodes with some FREDS and also exchanging the power caps with a better quality cap, like Nichicon or so.
If any of you guys out there have some more experience with modifying this (pretty good) CD player, we would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks
It's work great, I did exactly what you said except I donnot have Sorbothane feet, so I use the mouse pad for subtitute. The mid really jump out and the bass warmup. Pretty simple mod but good result. I am looking for replace the some CAP and diod too. You have some advice? Thanks
Have not done the diode and cap ugrade myself yet. Suggest you give Michael Percey a call.
I'll do the same in a few weeks.
Good luck.
Hi Capt. Z
I will do the mod just like you did, then will go further in CAP mod.
May be we can make a team out of this. I am willing to experiment my CAL. I will update you the improvement.
Thanks
