... is to admit the error in the old ways (old fortune cookie saying). Ditch the cumbersome flexy components and spend the $45 it'll cost to buy 3 Lacks. Believe me, I've spent far more and starting over is always the hardest part.

Thank you for your response. The Lack does seem like an elegant, effective solution. I do plan on ditching the flexy design (use of threaded rods), but I really want to keep the maple shelves. They look damn good in the same room as the maple record shelves I made last year in woodworking class; and, though they may not take as much advantage of constrained layer damping or the light-and-stiff approach as the Lacks, maple seems to be a popular component support material around here.
