With the help of my local technician, I upgraded my Snell E-III speakers with Solen litz inductors (in tweeter and bass/midrange crossovers) and installed Jensen Alunimum PIO caps (12 + 6 uf) in the bass driver crossover. The upgrade added much bloom and the sound became more uniform and consistent (which was apparent after some burn-in and after changing the speaker cable). Now the dealer offers to install Jensen PIO caps (a 6uf cap is required but the Jensens do not have such value) saying they are the best and more accurate (which I doubt: they are good but not neutral), using 5uf + 1 uf values. May I install other caps instead such as 6 uf Relcaps/Multicaps or Cardas caps which this dealer handles or I should stick to the same brand? Also, he offers to replace Monster speaker wire with Kimber 8 TC, but I doubt how he will be able to solder this multistrand wire.
Follow Ups:
Nearly forgot, you MUST replace any white or slightly off white rectangular shaped resistors with Mills wire wound resistors... If you do this mod alone to one speaker, you'll be amazed at how much of a difference it makes.

Any film caps ought to be replaced with Sonicaps unless you have tons of money. Cardas's are better for sure. Any electrolytics you cannot afford to replace with foil ought to be replaced with Black Gate's if they have correct values, or if you can mix and match to get the correct values. Rel and Multi caps should be an improvement, but Cardas or SoniCaps would be far better. SoniCaps over stock is night and day, Cardas over Sonicaps will be an improvement, but it is not going to be a night and day improvement.

...than other metallized 'propylenes. The Gen. 1s might sound a little quicker/cleaner, but maybe it's because the 2s are even-less edgy than the 1s. The 2s are a LITTLE warmer too.I think the Cardas Golden Ratios are MUCH cleaner sounding than SCs, and SoniCap Platinums are even more 'not there' in the sound.
If I were replacing caps in series with the MR or treble, I'd use Cardas GRs if I could stretch to affording them. In the LARGE values where CGRs might cost $200 each, use SoniCaps bypassed with CGRs. SCs do VERY well in parallel with the drivers.

Hi Jeffery,
Nice post. I really do not care for the cheaper Gen. 2's though. The color sounds really sweet at first, but over time it really begins to wear on you, IME.

I've had good luck with the Multicaps. The polypropylene foils are better than the metallized. The Kimber 8TC will not really present a problem for soldering. He'll strip back and twist together the strands to make one heavy wire at the connection. It is a "good value" cable, and should be an improvement over the Monster.

Thanks a lot!He soldered the Kimber without any problem + Jensen copper in oil caps. I've got totally new sound which is sort of overwhelming. Some subtle detail and balance have been lost...

Caps mounted in parellel are additive in value i.e. a 5 uF wired in parellel with a 1 uF = 6 uF.
