This may not be a real tweaker's question, but I figured you guys looking over the tweaker sites have a good deal of technical understanding and know how.
Just got a nice British integrated amp from B+W - Aura VA 100 II. The Amp I had before ( Acurus DIA 100 )never felt warm when touching it.
So I would like to know what is the reason for this amp to run so hot, even when no music is playing. The transformer itself does not feel hot, so I don't think it's an overworked Transformer.
Could this mean that this is a Class A Amp or a amp with a high output current?
Your hunch about Class "A" is probably on target. Even if the amp is not pure Class "A", the O/P devices can be turned on quite "hard". In the Class "A" and Class "Ab" situations, significant amounts of power are being dissipated even when the amp is "idling". This leads to the hot heat sinks you notice. There is a chance the unit is defective, unlikely since the power transformer does not feel hot.
