How did you wire the power cord's braided shield? Did you terminate it at the AC plug's ground, and then leave it floating at the CDP's end?The shield should only be connected at the AC plug end (source) and it should *not* be connected at the component end (load).

Shields on line cords, inter connects, etc. should be grounded at the wall outlet end of the cord, or at the input end of an interconnect and the other end either left 'floating' (not grounded) or grounded to the unit's chassis thru a 0.01 capacitor. I prefer a silver mica or stacked film as they are non-inductive. The theory is that you are shunting RFI to ground rather than feeding it into your unit. I prefer using a 3-wire linecord with the the chassis grounded ONLY to the 3rd wire of the linecord. This keeps the RFI off the neutral wire (gd.) of the linecord and promotes quieter grounds. If you ground your PS or pcb to the neutral AC wire you inject any RFI into your circuit. Quiet grounds produce higher resolution of fine detail, transients, etc.
Only connect at the plug and is floating at the cdp's end. I got that part right.
A better method would be to drill out the PCB holes just enough to fit the larger wire into it for a true direct soldering. However, it depends on how much copper is left available on the PCB for a proper solder joint.Otherwise, how are you securing the power cord to the CDP? Is it secured to the chassis' back with a bushing or grommet, or just hanging onto the PCB through a hole in the chassis?

Dilling out, thats an idea I had not considered. I thought that the pcb holes are copper lined. Drilling out would remove this copper.the PC is secured with a piece of wood glued to the chassis.

Just "how much" bass is missing? If the top end and mids sound "correct", then it just might be a matter of tighter, not "less" bass. What previous power cord was used on the CDP?

The favor 3 with a lower end wattgate.
