Based upon the one answer i got on the zener emitter follower regulator question i had i decided to keep it as is except for changing the power transistor to the mje3055 and 2955 10a max current npn and pnp..These are to220 with heatsinks that i attached, replaced solely because the original to92 sanyo versions were getting way too hot for my liking..I have been doing alot of listwning and noticed one thing, the opa627 ops being powered sound so damn good and revealing and liquid with absolutely no grain and deep bass that seemed to be slightly MIA till now.. I would just like to know from anyone who can tell me what is the deal here, the datasheet only really states these as being general purpose...How have these made such a drastic difference in sound??..I also have noticed my rails being dead stable at 15.5 +/-, my only guess is because of the added heat sink and better dissapation being to220 is causing the better stability, but soundwise , its just bliss.

Or put another way you've increased its effective impedance. The transistor you used has approximately one tenth the Hfe (current gain) of the one it replaced. The Z of an amplifed Zener circuit is roughly the dynamic Z of the zener multipled by the Hfe of the transistor.
I can't see how that can have improved the circuit but your ears are your ears. Maybe you've taken the circuit part way to the sound of an unregulated circuit.

I meant efficacy not efficiency. Another possibility is that the load on the reg was driving the old transistor into sauration so that the reg wasn't working very well, in which case even with lower Hfe the new transistor will be an improvement.

by having only 1/10th the current gain as before??..Where did the low end and darker backround come from??.
