Dave:The bad news is that I can't fill any orders now. It will be a couple of months at the earliest before I am up and running.
The good news is that Horace Atkinson's enclosures are beautiful. You can also see his work on his website, iagaudio.com. I have purchased four enclosures from IAGAudio, and they are terrific. If you need to buy now, don't worry -- you should be very happy with his products.
Can I assume, though, that you would be interested in the products I'd like to import if they were available for sale?
Follow Ups:
I wish you well in your enclosure venture. However, I urge you to do an in depth survey of the potential size of the market and prices in the existing market. I would also research the largest selling sizes and initially confine yourself to those, or see if your suppliers would drop ship for you i.e. you send them an order and they ship directly to your customer. Holding your own inventory can be lethal due to the investment required. There are a great many companys that act as warehouses for small and fledgling businesses such as yours (no aspersion intended). I have bought DVI and HDMI cables on the internet from such companys, they hold no inventory of their own. Many of the TV ads are what we used to call "bucket shops" from the practice of literally throwing orders received into a bucket until a goodly number of orders were received. Any time you see something advertised with a long delivery period i.e. 6-8 wks., it is quite likely a bucket shop. I used to live in Gary, Ind. right after Noah landed and one of the first things I learned is "Never pay list, find a connection with someone who knows somebody and get a 'Slovak going away price'". I needed a 6" gate valve and the best list I could find was $250. I found a connection and got the valve for $45 from someone who worked in the foundry that made them. They now call this "networking". Don't be afraid ro ask, all they can do is say NO, or Get the hell out of here ! A thin skin gets you nowhere in business. Go break a leg !
pkell44:I appreciate your concern and I agree that a careful review of the current market will be needed to determine the most popular chassis sizes. The good news is that this business venture is not intended to support me -- I have a full-time job already -- instead, this is intended to supplement my income only.
The business (if I pursue it) will be shared with a good friend. He has access to warehouse space and would be in charge of order fulfillment. I expect to be responsible for customer contact, advertising and the like. Our overhead will be very low and it is only the initial investment in inventory (both the chassis and some other ancillary items we are considering carrying) that we will be risking. Worst case, we would sell goods on ebay.
So forget the business behind the scenes. Would you buy if you saw a suitable product?
