No Wally,The "recommended transformer" does not come from Canada. If you read something that made you believe that is the case, you must've been reading recommendations for US constructors.
Here in Oz, the "recommended transformers" can be bought from RS Components or Harbuch (actually, these are Antrim - UK - transformers) ... however, that's only if you're the sorta guy who wants to avoid Chinese-made cheapies from Dick Smith or Jaycar. You have RS Components in the UK and you can certainly buy Antrim there.
Hugh Dean simply specifies the (voltage/VA) size and suggests a regulation figure.

Thanks for the info. RS are more geared up to business customers than private individuals, well that's how it was a few years ago. I'll check out their site and see what they're like now.

Hi Wally,Yes you should check em out again ... certainly here in Melbourne they are very happy to deal with "amateurs" like moi. They have a minimum A$10 charge but, as they sell many things in packs of 5 or 10, that's generally not a problem.
You'll love your AKSA, if you get around to building one!
