Add Your Review for the Bassis |
The Bassis unit is designed to be used in conjunction with an active crossover and is placed between the low frequency output of the crossover and the amp for the woofers or subwoofer. The unit is also designed to be used with drivers in a sealed enclosure, though it may work with other configurations. In order to use the unit, you need to know the Q of the driver in your enclosure and the Fs of your drivers. You then can adjust the Qb according to the kind of bass you desire and the boost. My unit is balanced, has upgraded op amps and has stepped attenuators for pots.
My woofers are in a sealed enclosure.
This is one GREAT unit. It allows you to contour your bass response as well as to extend bass by up to two octaves (providing you have the power to do this). With dual 8" woofers per cabinet and the Bassis, all thoughts of getting a sub (for music at least) have vanished. While the unit can extend the bass response of any woofer in a sealed enclosure, I think it is best used with relatively small drivers which need the bass extension the most. For this application, I highly recommend it. My dual 8" drivers sound like a pair of 12" drivers.
Marchand kits come fully assembled or in two forms of kits: one is the full kit, the other is the EZ kit in which the PCBs come stuffed and wired. Just about anyone would assemble an EZ kit.
Product Weakness: | May not work or work as well with other enclosures (non-sealed) |
Product Strengths: | Does exactly what it promises to do, extend bass response. Far superior to a graphic equalizer |

Another product that may help is the Audio Control Richter Scale. It is basically a 7 band bass eq that has it's highest control at 125 hz. It also has a crossover, which is quite good. I would not, however, recommend running the high pass output through the eq. The unit definitely helped my project of sealed woofers turn out to be a huge success.
I think it could really make the difference between a DIY disaster or success. Thanks for bringing this to the board! Very cool. I am now more comfortable than ever with my planned project. I may even go sealed now!
Just make sure you have the power; boosting bass response takea A LOT of power.
