what is wrong with my scan-speak 6.5" driver? it stopped playing, not over driven, tweeter is not blown nor xover, and there's no resistance across the terminals. no visible damage, just no sound. did i do something wrong, or am i the recipient of a faulty piece? thanks
Check to see if one of the terminal voice coil wires has come loose on the backside of the terminals. I like SS drivers, but they use some of the cheapest and most brittle terminals I have ever seen for drivers of this price. If it's not come loose there then you have got a problem. Send it back.Clayton
I would agree with Clayton's assesment of the problem. I have run across this with many drivers. The flex leads break loose or just have a poor connection to the terminal strips. You may have to get the terminals VERY hot while adding more solder to make a good connection. When doing this, make sure that you don't flow solder down into the flex leads. This would make them stiff and cause premature failure again.Once you get this done, carefully bend the terminals closer to the cone ( if possible ). This will allow slightly greater excursion without the flex leads being stressed as badly. If your playing a lot of vinyl, you may need a good subsonic filter. Sean
thanks as always, i really did look closely at the terminal connections. they seem to be intact. unless the break is located at the conductor attached to the cone. either way, i think returned is the outlook. i didn't solder the speaker terminals i used spades since they were in a test mode. later, bobr
