What are the tweaks that you have tried to add mass to a tonearm.
Was it easy/difficult/messy/worth the trouble...Thanks
Follow Ups:
Ordinary Teflon Plumbers tape makes an excellent tonearm wrap it does add a small degree of effective mass but more importantly will
tame high frequency tonearm resonances. Electrical tape as well as
shrink wrap will work also but are generally a little too heavy IMHO
and with the tape the mastic is problematic should you decide to remove it you'll have the gooey mastic residuum to deal with
I find adding a glob of Blu-Tack under the headshell works nicely for more mass sticking a dime in it is effective, for the more neurotic type A analophile,a cryo'd vintage dime is best, and be sure to do the application on a waneing Moon ;-)

I know I shoulda driven over to Atmasphere and gotten some of the tonearm wrap, but I saw a plastic tape that melds to itself at the local HW and tried some of that instead. Without comparing it to the Atmasphere wrap, I can't say it is better or at even as good, but it does do a good job of damping the arm and increasing the resolution... and as a nice side effect for you, will increase the mass of the arm too.Another option.

P.S. Sorry, I don't have the name or manufacturer of the product anymore. It came in a small hanging bubble-on-a-card package, looks a bit like a roll of electric tape with the distinction of having a layer of polyethylene film on one side of the tape to keep it from adhering to itself on the roll.

Hi,To add effective mass you best add it at the headshell. You can get self adheasive lead from those "Window lead" supplies sections at your local DIY Shop where they sell stuff to make fake "stained glass" windows.
I would still also recommend a ring of lead around 1/3rd from the arm pivot. This does not do too much to increase the effective mass, but it does have a rather positive effect on the sound in most cases.
This wrap applied to a Rega 250 arm made a profound improvement in the resolution. It added a little mass, but I think the improvement resulted from damping the arm tube's resonance. It was easy to apply, and instead of the spiral springs, I just used a short piece of self-adhesive silicone tape from Radio Shack at the end of the spiral wrap. The beginning of the spiral captures the end of the damping tape under the first turn.
Adding mass without improving the damping will simply lower the resonance modes of the arm and perhaps harm the sound.
