I placed three leather recliners in my listening room the previous month, to replace some vinyl couches. Call me crazy, but its totally messed with the sound of my system. And Im NOT the only one to notice it. You can hear all the reflections, the high frequencies have been tilted up.Before that Ive been battling the dreaded L-shaped room, which clearly shifts the soundstage around. When I dont place some (unsightly 2minute job) treatments in the corner people notice the soundstage is off center. With closer listening its easy to see the highs shifted away from the corner, and the bass shifted towards the corner.
I think the room is stupendously important. I also think if a company can start selling good looking treatments at petty cash prices it would be a blessing for 80% of the audiophiles out there.
Follow Ups:
my point was that ALL problems like this are not always room-related.
Sometimes they are Not. I certainly doubt you'd ever correct off-center sound stage with such treatments.
