Has your buddy considered the Signature upgrade? Would cost quite a bit more though than replacing the L-Pad with resistors. I have the 2CE Sigs, and have heard the 2CE's and 2CE Sigs in a side by side comparison. Very nice and worthwhile upgrade IMHO.John

I also recently upgraded to 2Ce fro 1985 vintage 2C's The difference is night and day. Long break in period. I loaded the bases with lead shot, Richard V. says to mix lead and sand. I also place a 25# bag of lead on top of the speaker. Richard doesn't like that idea I am still evaluating. If you can afford it look at the 3A's. I have always like the Vandersteen sound. Many people do not.
They are laid back (not thin like some say) Richard fixed all the problems that the early 2C's had
I am not looking to get my friend to upgrade to a diiferent speaker. I posted this in the tweaker's forum. I want to optimize the sound of these speakers and was looking for some input from anyone who has tweaked these or any vandersteens.
