The shops in my area told me that the pillows in the corners were
for bass. What are they for if not for bass? Killing other modes
in the upper mid maybe? Please Elaborate!TLR
They're for mid- and high-frequencies primarily. these tend to "rattle around" in the corners, and interfere w/ imaging and dynamics.
Ok, so basically your talking about high frequency modes. Just like
the bass ones, but a different freq.Generally, these are not a problem in the corners due to the length of
the actual waveform. Unless your living in a room about 3 feet X 3 feet
that is.Now, to almost contradict what I just said, it is a good idea to get rid
of corners by having 50 or 52 degree angles in corners. In studios they
like to fill in the front upper corners with a board, or better yet an
insulated wall at a 50 degree angle. If the pillows are used something
like that, I guess I can see that...but all the ones I saw were like
2" thick at most.I guess I just don't see how they can effect the room any more than
a plant could.TLR
I rushed though this last post, let me clarify what I ment.
I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was just pointing out that
a reputable local audiophile shop told me they were for bass.
If these little pillows do anything, it wasn't very noticable
with three or four different sets of speakers I tested.TLR
