As you might have guessed; I just got back from the dentist and I am on pain meds.Man, what is it with people always having to get all doped up after a trip to the dentist? I've had impacted wisdom teeth pulled, I've had several root canals. The worst was once when I had the dentist prying on my jaw for over an hour trying to remove a wisdom tooth whose roots were all twisted up. That hurt a bit afterward, but nothing a couple over-the-counter Motrin couldn't handle.
You guys wimps or do you just use it as an excuse to get all doped up legally? :)

HowdyI usually skip the pain killers entirely (in my case they hurt worse than the work itself.) Tho convincing dentists to do tooth work with no pain killers isn't too hard it was much harder to convince the oral surgeon to do a root canal with no pain killer, but he learned something that day and I didn't have to suffer yet more arrogance of a specialist thinking he knew better than I what worked best for me.

I'm thinking of getting doped up on opiates.

Oh how I'd love to say what I'd like to say as a reply to that.
But I won't. ;)

For a root canal they'll give you laughing gas first then lots
of Novocain. To have a regular tooth pulled they use just Novocain.
For impacted wisdome teeth you'll need laughing gas & Novcain. For real operations they give you a drug to paralise you and another to put you to sleep. You won't know a thing, you can't even fight the effects of those powerfull drugs. I've tried.
HowdySorry I meant both anesthetics and pain killers. Local anesthetics are quite painful. Being knocked out by sodium pentothal isn't very pleasant either, but at least I'm unconscious during most of it and only scream my head off for a while when I first wake up. The pain killers don't do much for me, tho I don't have a lot of experience with opiates. I'm not looking forward to any future operations, the last few in emergency rooms weren't much fun.
Sorry I meant both anesthetics and pain killers.Ah, ok.
Local anesthetics are quite painful.
Never found locals to be painful. Once when the dentist was trying to get the needle well back into the crook of my jaw, he tweaked a nerve. Felt like an electric shock going up the side of my head. More of a surprise than painful though.

Hehehe. I've heard of anesthetics which don't really knock you out, they just paralyze you and give you amnesia so you don't remember what happened. If true, that's rather ghoulish.

Last FEW operations in emergency rooms? What, you head up the local street gang or something? :)
