This time I built the surge suppressor / AC noise filter.I had to go with three different suppliers to get all the parts, which boosted cost significantly ($30 for shipping verses one $10 charge). I also decided to use outdoor plastc enclosures, that have 1/2 or 3/4 round neck openings on the top and bottom of each, so that the three I used (2 for components, one for 2 plugs) all fit together. The plug enclosure has only one opening. I used stainless steel covers for all three boxes.
The design was easy to follow and I had no trouble getting it right on the first try. I should point out that I am new to DIY, my previous experience being three sets of DIY ICs and I installed an IEC socket in my CDP and attached my DIY Risch power cord. If you're new too, don't be afraid of the filter / suppressor: it's easy to make.
Did it improve the sound? Hell YES. As per normal, I used my wife's ears to ensure that I wasn't experiencing "wishful hearing." I started off with power straight from the wall, then switched to the filter. Within a few seconds, she said "oh, this one sounds a LOT better - there's so much more space - it's like we're surrounded with musicians." We're experiencing two noticable differences: much greater soundstage width and depth, and greater detail. The difference is startling.
I think next I'll go with a Foreplay preamp kit, since I'm out of Risch projects. Thanks Jon, you did it again!

Follow Ups:
isolation transformers for your digital gear. And of course his DIY cables too if you haven't. So you only think you are done:)
I'll second the iso trannys for your digital front end.In my set-up, it provided darker background, more "in the room" sound for little$. Didn't have the balls to go with the added resistors, though-too hot for my liking, as I leave it on all the time.

Thanks for the kind words, it is nice to know a fellow music lover is enjoying the music even more.
