Barry,I have two six foot tall Risch Q&D traps placed in the back corners of my room and have already enjoyed some benefits. Your epiphany has me thinking I need more and this recipe seems pretty easy.
I'm wondering how you determined how many the room "needed" as you put it.
Follow Ups:
Hi Ralph,In determining how many traps to make, I decided to address the pressure zones in the room that relate to the fundamentals and their harmonics as well as the early reflection points.
Fundamentals were addressed with a 16" x 6' trap in each corner. Their harmonics were addressed with a 16" x 6' trap in the center of each wall and a 9" x 6' trap between each of the 16" traps. Orientation of the absorptive side of some traps was used to catch early reflections.
Exceptions in my room were to allow space front and center for video projection and a 16" x 3' trap in the center of the real wall because my projector is hanging there and wouldn't allow for a 6' trap. The 3' trap is elevated on a pedestal so most of its body is behind the center of the couch I listen from.
Because both my friend and I are using planar speakers (Magnepans), we didn't have to worry about vertical radiation as we would have with point source type speakers.
I don't know that I have all the traps I will ultimately end up with but for now I'm quite pleased.
Hope this helps.
Happy Listening!
Barry
Now I guess I'm going to have to build some more!:)
