I need opinions. My Delhi antenna works great for most reception in
my area. However there is room for improvement on my favourite Buffalo
station.I am thinking of utilizing the antenna A/B switch on my Magnum tuner and adding a bigger(more elements and longer boom)APC
antenna that is also more directional just for this station.
The location I am planning on locating this antenna is only about
fifteen feet high as opposed to my Delhis 30 ft.Here is my question.
Would there still be a performance improvement with the APC antenna
located at fifteen feet high over my Delhis at 30 feet.
In other words what is more important,a better antenna at a lower
height or a modest antenna up really high.Yes I know that both are ideal but cost and location are factors here.Any advice much appreciated.

Check out Brian Beezley's website for the full details on what and how to do this. Yes, apparently 2 identical antennae spaced and faced properly and then coupled properly can indeed improve your reception.

Hi, Duane:According to what I have read, if you take two identical multiple element yagi-type antennas or better yet, perhaps use log periodics and STACK them one on top of the other in the vertical dimension, with a critical distance apart from each other, you will gain more than 5 dB in overall signal in so doing.
I believe that this is well documented in the pages of Audio Magazine and can be found perhaps in the Radio Amateur Handbook.
This might be of use to you, but you need TWO IDENTICAL antennae!

There are probably extenuating factors that haven't been mentioned, but how about this for a simplistic solution. Mount the Delhis at the 15 ft. location for the stations that already come in well. Because, as you indicate, these stations already come in strong, the lower height should not make much of a difference. Then mount the APC at the 30 ft. loction to get the benefit of both the higher elevation and higher gain antenna for improving reception of your favorite station.

Or simpler yet, just the new better antenna on the existing high mast but add a rotator. IOW a single but better installation.

Second Ron's suggestion about upgrading your antenna, dudeupshaw. A Weingard wedge antenna should foot the bill. Being a wedge design, it has the stacked antenna advantages Marantzguy mentioned, though in one self-contained unit.
