Brian,
I'm looking to buy a tube stereo Sherwood tuner. What is the better option, the S-3000 IV or S-3000 V?
Thanks for your input.

IF you have some good stations nearby.
I would suggest that you think about getting a really good directional antenna with gain, that you can point at each of them.
(No tuner made can reject multipath.)
Then you will be able to drive any valve tuner into full quieting. This means a LOT more signal than an SS tuner needs. 'kay?!
Budget for a rebuild and alignment and then go ahead.
Leaving out the antenna is not a good idea with valve tuners.
They generally need a lot more signal to sound as good as they can.

As to the Sherwoods, I have a "V" and I can vouch for its excellent sound (mono or stereo). The "IV", though, I think (???) has the magic eye indicator for signal strength, while the V has a much more prosaic meter movement. On the "plus" side, the V's meter does indicate center-channel tuning on FM, which is more useful than signal strength (of course).
In aesthetics, the IV may get the nod.
Based on all my experience with Sherwood tunas to date, though... otherwise I'd expect it to be a push.
all the best,

On 5/7/15 he said he had cancer.
If you have strong signal, as I do, magic eye is a pain in the neck. Give me a meter any day of the week!
