Edit: I posted a picture of it in the "for sale" section under tuners. My Scott 399 receiver is a stereo receiver with an FM mono tuner inside (built just before mpx was established) but has a mpx jack "out" to hook up to an outboard mpx decoder which I have (Scott 335).
I'm starting to get a distorted sound in FM Stereo but FM sounds perfect in mono. Tried another 335...didn't fix the FM stereo sound.
Questions are...
If the FM is out of alignment in the receiver, could that send a bad enough signal to the decoder that would cause this distorted sound?
Can FM be out of alignment and still sound good in mono?
Thanks.

Fm mono can be out of alignment and so can the MPX stage.
I've referenced a thread below. It has an article about how to check if y tuna is aligned.

Early AM in Oz...late PM in So Cal. I'm going to look at your link again in the morning (after coffee) but I already get the gist of it. Nicely done.
With an FM mono tuner (that has a mpx out) and an outboard FM mpx decoder, does a tech need to have both units in front of him at same time to make "them" work together?
I still wish I could get you to use just one much higher gain antenna to switch through to each tuner.
This would help you distinguish between them a good deal more than now.

Most of the time I'm listening to my own FM Transmitter (Ramsey) in my house. According to the scopes on my Marantz tuners, I'm getting a real strong signal and no signs of multipath distortion using a folded dipole oriented correctly of course.
With this set up, do you still think I would benefit from a high gain antenna?
Also depends on the topography around you, the more hills the worse the problems are.
