I have a couple tuners with scopes (Marantz 10b, 20b, SAE Mark VI). Each tuner has it's own 300 ohm folded dipole and the stations I listen to are close by.With this many antennas, I hang all of them vertically and then depending on what tuner I decide to use, I would position "that" antenna horizontally.
Lately, I've just left the antennas in the vertical position as the scope shows me that I still get great signal strength "and" the multipath display shows a nice smooth horizontal line indicating no multipath distortion.
So, can I trust the scope and leave the antenna vertical or is there something else that would make FM Stereo better with the antenna horizontal?

As the number of FM radios in cars surpassed the number of 'home' sets, the broadcasters shifted to the vertical orientation - to send a clear signal to the automobiles - thus today, you can usually get a better signal from mounting a dipole in a vertical orientation....
Seem to be doing fine with the vertical positioning.
Do you think there is "anything" that would be gained with the horizontal orientation?
onemug,
It may be possible that a distant or station that is on the edge of the 'line-of-sight' path from transmitter to your antenna could benefit from the horizontal orientation - but not likely - the next big gain would be height - above the ground and after that - it is Timbo's Rhombic...
I am trying to get a Rhombic set up but struggling between WAF and HOA regs....
Happy tuning!
Sounds good. Guess my scope isn't hiding anything. :-)
