I remember this from catalogs but I'd never seen one in the flesh - til yesterday.
Couldn't resist it for seven Samoleums, so it followed me home...
I cannot ascertain how well it works, because it takes two 9V batteries to operate its built-in amp... and I don't seem to have any farking 9V batteries!?! :-P
My guess is it won't be much better - nor worse - than any other small active FM antenna I've got... which is to say, probably pretty mediocre.
Further details as events warrant...
all the best,
mrh

Hi Mark,
I could not have left something that cool looking either! Being a Technics product, it is probably very rare. I have no idea how good it is, but Technics did make some good stuff.
Let us know!

Do tell, Tim - which is the one good Terk?
Go to here - just below and click on the link.
A couple of points? An antenna mounted in a loft is 'a good thing,' encouraging people to do it even more so.
A half-wave dipole is a lot better than any other teeny-tiny TERK with FM 'capability'.
If you use it in a loft / on a roof you cannot aim it unless you invest in a rotator to mount it on. My instant thought is ..... Why put an amplified antenna in a loft if you thus MUST have room for a yagi?
You can switch the RF amplifier off. I would be unsurprised if it sounded better 'off' on many stations. IE local ones.
Note that the comments from Richard Modaferri would - I hope - mean that this is the BEST active* indoor FM antenna he has tested. * amplified.

if it doesn't improve your FM reception, you can always see if it'll fly by tossing it ;-)
EMWTKnow how it goes where you are!
You will need to aim it IE across the line of sight to each transmitter.

but I haven't hooked the antenna to a tuner yet :-P
The weather's been too good -- I've been doin' chores out in the yard!
Cut the grass yesterday for the first time this year...
(we still have to figure out to do with the 'wasteland' above from which we had to have a couple of acres of red pine removed)
all the best,

In autumn you are reminded of all the pruning that's been put off.

What? No smoke detectors in your house?
Scarf two out, and try that thing.
I mean, what's the chances of a fire, really? Be bold!
... the new one has hard-wired smoke and CO detectors integrated with an alarm system -- I am not entirely sure this is a step forward, though.
Heck, it gives me an excuse to go shopping!
all the best,

.....I've never read a positive comment on an active antennae ...
Thanks, and keep da faith! This one MIGHT be as good as the ONE GOOD TERK item also some kind of folded dipole and therefore directional.
Battery power may make it quieter, than a PSU off the mains can.
