I shopping for a tube tester (first one,... for hifi purposes) and I've noticed that many descriptions mention that a tester does not do old tubes or that it doesn't test newer tubes. The tubes I wish to test the most are...6550/KT88
12A series
6SN7
EL seriesCan anyone tell me if these are considered old tubes or new tubes?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks, guys, for the advice. I just purchased that Hickok 533A from Ebay and a like-new (late-model) B&K 747B to have fun with for a while. I may sell off one later, but for now I'm enjoying a hobby within a hobby (tubes!). I never thought I'd like 'em, but I am. My sterile Class A solid state stuff just had to go. The last thing I have now is a 6-month-old mint (low-mileage) Bryston 4BST, and I've got another interested inquiry.

The seller may mean REALLY old tubes like 2A3, 6N7 and such or tubes that were obsolete by the '50s and '60s. The tubes you mention should be fine for any yube tester from the '50s and '60s. jim......

As tubes go they would be considered new. In fact have an old Sylvaina tube manual and the 12AU7 is in the green page section titled "NEW TUBES"

My old Knight Kit tube tester from the 60's lists those.
