I am thinking of trading in my exposure super xv integrated amp for a jolida 302b. My speakers are klipsch rf-3. Does anyone else have the Klipsch/jolida combo?? If so how does it sound?? I listen to mostly rock music and I want to know if I am wasting my time with tubes. Also which jolida is better the 102b, 202b, or 302b???
thanks

Hi Franco211.I've had a JoLida 202 for a while and it's a good amp overall, even though it's been replaced in my main system with a DIY 2A3 SET. If I had it to do over, I might have gone with the 102 (I don't really need all that much power), or the 302 (better build quality), but I don't have any actual regrets on the JoLida. It helped ease my transition from sand to glass amps and I'm not going back. Neither will you, once you have a chance to do some listening.
The Klipsch's are plenty efficient IIRC, so power shouldn't be much of an issue unless you are a serious earbleeder. Of course I'm happy for now with 89dB speakers and 4.5watts of SET power, so you might want to take this into account when making your decision. You might well want to go with the 302 for some real power.....
One proviso that I'd like to add is that you will want to get some better tubes in there ASAP. The stock Shuagong's are c**p in my personal opinion. It won't cost much to retube with ElectroHarmonix, Svetlana, or JJ Tesla EL34's, and you might consider the Ei Elite 12AX7's (I've had good experiences with the "regular" Ei small signal tubes, but have not had a chance to try the Elites yet). The Philips JAN 12AX7WA's seem to have dried up lately, unfortunately, so if you find those it will be at elevated prices. For what it's worth if you go with the EL84 based JoLida 102, SovTek makes a good EL84 that's available dirt cheap, and Ei makes an EL84 that is very good sounding in my MG Head headphone amp.
I am just a little worried that goin to tubes will give me a "slower" sound. The exposure xv(my current amp) is known ifor its speed and dnamics which is good for rock music. Im affraid the tubes wont have the speed and dynamics needed for loud rock music?
thanks frank

Right now I'm listening to a circa 1960 tube integrated amp, and no way could this be called "slow". A good tube amp circuit, complete with good output transformers and decent power supply, will be as quick as any sand amp, and sound more musical and less fatiguing as a bonus.

Hi Franco. Well, PRAT is definitely a concern with tube gear as it is with SS gear.My own love of tubes stems from the complete lack of listening fatigue that has accompanied the change. It used to be that after an hour or two of listening to my solid state hifi, I'd get a nasty headache. Now I can listen all day long on my days off and it's not an issue.
If you like your rock music loud and your bass powerful, you might also include the JoLida 502 in your search.
Here are a couple of reviews of the 102, 302 and 502 that you should take a look at:

Hopefully you'll find the answers to your questions in there.
The Jolida 801a seems to be off the radar in most of these discussions. Maybe that's because of its price point. I know one Jolida dealer who believably claims he thinks the 801 is the best of the Jolidas, while another says he doesn't like them. I'm enormously happy with mine, which I acquired used on eBay for $825. It has even a bit more power than the 502, although I can't make any specific claims for it's superiority over the 502, as I've never heard a 502. A lot of people consider the 302b to be the most musical of all the Jolidas, but I listen to all kinds of music and the Jolida 801 is an absolutely VAST improvement over the Adcom/Sonographe-by-conrad-johnson amp/pre-amp combo I was using before. And that's in spite of my getting just about as much for my old gear on the used market as I paid for the Jolida! The Jolida works for me on acoustic jazz, folk, rock, chamber, orchestral, solo instrumental, guitar, and so on...

Not all tube amps sound "slow." It depends on the circuit and also the tubes chosen, both type and brand. Search this Asylum on terms like "speed", "PRaT", "slam" etc.

Has anyone done any tweaks to the 302b?? if so in what areas did the sound improve?? Are there any tweaks that can be done to get better bass?? I really wanna switch to tubes I heard a freinds system that consisted of an Anthem amp 1 and Klipsch Heresys and it sounds awesome. How does the 302b compare to the Anthem integrated 1 or the Golden tube audio Si50?? Which will sound best for rock music with my Klipsch RF-3?
thanks

I'm not personally familiar with the amps you mentioned. You should try to borrow a few tube amps to try out at home. With your speakers, power will not be a huge issue. You could even try one of the little Decware SET amps which are very "fast." There are a couple of used ones on Audiogon now (I am not affiliated with Decware or the sellers.)

Sovteks come standard in the 102 now BTW. Sounds nice.

Hi Donavon. Sorry about the out of date info; it's good to hear that the 102 is coming with decent tubes now. I wish my 202 had come with EH's or SovTeks!
