The elves under the guidance of nOrh's Michael Barnes have done it again. Hot on the heels of the $299.95/ea Le Amp ss monos, nOrh is releasing a $399 USD EL34-based 35 lb mirror-polished steel chassis integrated with black fascia, Alps pot, platinum-plated contacts, 2 inputs, ceramic tube sockets, 5AR4 tube rectification, 12AX7 driver tubes (and the pre- and power tubes are sourced from Electro Harmonix btw.)This introductory offer includes worldwide delivery. Competition for Antique SoundLab?
The nOrh website should have updates in their August newsletter.

The SE9 certainly looks great, especially at that price, so I emailed Michael Barnes for some particulars. He said the SE9 should be available next month. There's no real preamp section to the integrated, and no gain, but for most CD players that shouldn't be a problem.
But he said nOhr is also at work on another EL34 amp, this one running in parallel putting out 16 watts. Unlike the SE9, with its passive preamp section, the next one will include a preamp section with gain (and phono!). Price is expected to be $695.
They're also toying with a 300B integrated. But Michael says they want to see how things go with the SE9 first.
All sound like they could be terrific deals.
I'm hoping we get more details about the level of gain needed for this Norh SE9.
It would be a shame if there's trouble with phono sources; that would be a terrible limitation.Otherwise I'm eagerly awaiting the initial user listening results!

The S-9 probably just uses a passive attenuator so it'll depend on its input sensitivity. 9watts will only get you so far, but the intent, if I understood correctly, is for this amp to be used with smaller nearfield speakers such as you'd set up for a den, bedroom, studio etc. - then most listening takes places below 2 watts if the speakers are reasonably efficient. For vinyl lovers, nOrh makes a tubed phono stage that I saw a pic of. Price $250 if I remember correctly, but I don't got no specifics...

The AQ1003DT is already a great value but it's double the price of that nOhr...and the nOhr is much heavier if that matters.
the norh isn't heavier... its way lighter. the asl is 21kg's and the norh is 35lbs. almost a 6kg difference.
(not that weight is a big factor)
Their site claims that it is 16Kg...so it's about the same...the conversion is what 2.1 times - I'm having a mental block at the moment... http://www.divertech.com/aq1003dt.htmlIn the end of course it's the sound that counts and since you can't listen to nOhr before you buy it I won't be a customer until they do...if they'd like to multiply their sales by a factor of at least ten then they should get into some kind of visibility.
