Hi everyone,I just bought a used MV50 and I found that one of the El34s won't bias and the 6FQ7s and 5751s are still the original GEs. Knowing the age of this amp, I would like to change ALL the tubes, just to give myself the peace of mind.
I have a quad set of Tesla El34s which I used lightly (less than 100 hrs). Any recommendations for the 6CG7/6FQ7s and the 5751s?
I was told specifically NOT to use 12AX7s for the 5751s by the local CJ dealer.
Follow Ups:
YH,I will second the recommendations from Moldog on the 6FQ's. The Mazdas are supposed to be killer tubes, but very rare. The RCA cleartops are a very nice tube. They are very liquid and non-fatiguing. As far as 5751 variants. I like the RCA black plates, Sylvania Gold brands, the Westinghouse windmill getter types and also the Sylvania Military Black plates are pretty good too. In regards to the 12AX. I spoke to Knut, who is a customer rep at CJ, about using the 12AX7. He told me it would be no problem as long as I observe the fact that the amp will have more gain.
Hope this helps,
I just replaced the GE 6FQ7's in my Premier 8's with US manufactured RCA cleartops purchased from thetubestore. Big improvement. If you search the archives you'll find many inmates recommend Mazda's, but they're apparently impossible to find. I recommend the cleartops.

In my Prem 4 I used Raytheon 6CG7 - best sound I got. JAN 5751s seemed OK too.
