I need to replace my mod squad prism cd player...I have had it for about three years and it's still working it was used when I bought it. plan to spend 500.00 tops and want something with tubed output what would be a good replacement?? I do not care for bells and thwe like only sound.....thanks denny
response audio has two pre-owned jolida 603's that are on their website right now-great sound, so-so build quality and I can't imagine the price being much over $250.00 for one if that -I own one and am in no way shape or form blah blah blah
Dear Dennie by way of Eric the Red,I wholeheartedly concur re the Jolida CD-603. I have one that I modified with a pair of Mullard M8137's (communication ver. of 12AX7) and a pair of WestCap 1uF/400V PIO caps in the audio opt section which is, indeed, an opt section and not just a buffer section for op amps like so many tubed CD players. It's sound, once broken in, is awesome to my ears!!
YMMV,

is cap surgery easy to perform and where would one get them? thanks
What would the address be for response audio???A few other people said to check out the Joilda..My main source is that black disk, If I need to go over 500 I can but not too much..
The MOD squad has been a great player but it's starting to show it's age, thanks for all the info...dennie
www.responseaudio.com Look in the used/demo section-with some good tubes you could stay WAY under $500.00 and believe me, you won't find anything that will touch it for under $500.00-hope this helps
I use a Dynaco ProCD tube CD player that I am very happy with, You should be able to find one used for under $500. It also plays HDCD's...Dave
You could shop for used players and keep under your price limit. For new players, check out the following although slightly higher than your budget:Aha! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 ($579) from upscaleaudio.com
Heart CD5000 ($545) from fsaudioweb.com
Best of luck!
